Former world welterweight boxing champion and former belt boxer of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Carlos Baldomir, was convicted on charges of rape of his own teenage daughter. According to the World Boxing News, the meeting, which took place on July 31 in Santa Fe (USA, New Mexico), ended unsuccessfully for a 47-year-old Argentinean - the boxer was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

The athlete was arrested on October 2016 after a statement from the police was filed by his former spouse, who testified about the violent actions of her husband against their common daughter. It is noted that Baldomir repeatedly used actions of a sexual and violent nature against a child who at the time was barely eight years old. A year after the arrest of the boxer, the prosecutor's office opened a criminal case against him. As noted by the famous portal BoxingScene, the athlete faces 20 years in prison.

According to a source who attended the meeting, Baldomir during the hearings behaved extremely defiantly. In particular, the boxer regularly insulted those present in the court, including media representatives, and showed them the so-called Effenberg gesture. In total, the court was attended by 14 witnesses who testified against the Argentine. In turn, Baldomir’s defense asked for the opportunity to release the athlete on bail three times, but each request was rejected.

As a result of the investigation, the prosecutor made a statement that the testimony of the victim — the daughter of Baldomir — turned out to be reliable, and she “told the story of the incident without inventing it.”

  • It is noted that cases of violence over the daughter of a boxer on his part occurred repeatedly. At the same time several times, as stated by the prosecutor, the victim suffered from his wounds.

  • “There are allegations of outrageous sexual abuse against Baldomir. He abused his daughter several times during the period when she was between eight and nine years old. All incidents took place in the boxer's family home. At the same time, he allowed himself to harass the child even on holidays, ”the prosecutor said during the last meeting.

  • Baldomir after transfer to the prison will have the right to petition for parole. True, he will be able to make this request only when he reaches the age of 60, namely, 13 years after being imprisoned.

  • In his career, Carlos Baldomir played 71 matches in which he scored 49 victories (15 of them by knockout), and also suffered 16 defeats. Another six fights were reduced to a draw. The Argentinian made his debut in professional boxing in 1993 and has been playing in his homeland for a long time. One of the most iconic fights in the history of Baldomir was the fight against American Zaba Judah, which took place in January 2006.

  • That meeting wore title status, at stake was the championship belt according to the WBC, which was owned by Judah, who had already held the second title defense. And Baldomir planned to sanction the meeting under the auspices of two other organizations - the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) - but the Argentine did not have enough money to participate in it.

  • As a result, the fight lasted all 12 rounds and ended with the victory of Carlos by unanimous decision of the judges with a score of 115: 113, 115: 112, 114: 113.

Besides the fact that Judah lost his belt according to the WBC, the World Boxing Association also deprived him of the title for the defeat of the Argentine.

  • Baldomir spent his first defence six months later - at the end of July 2006. His rival was Canadian boxer, Arturo Gatti. In the middle of the ninth round, the Argentinian pressed his opponent to the ropes and struck a series of blows on him and in the end sent Gatti in a knockdown with a powerful left hook. After waiting for the opponent to rise from the deck, Baldomir again launched an attack to the head, after which the Canadian fell again. As a result, the referee, who awarded Carlos an early victory by technical knockout, was forced to intervene.

  • The next opponent was Baldomir American Floyd Mayweather Jr. The Argentinean was not ready for this fight - throughout the meeting, Mayweather dominated, eventually delivering 330 accurate shots, which is almost 2.5 times more than Carlos.

After 12 rounds, the judges unanimously recognized the American as the winner - 120: 108, 120: 108, 118: 110, - and Floyd Jr. won the WBC welterweight belt.

Subsequently, Baldomir led several more fights, including losing to Vernon Forrest and Saul Alvarez. In 2014, the Argentine decided to end his professional career. After leaving boxing, Carlos worked as a trainer in the gym, where, by the way, he was arrested by the police.
