The Ministry of Defense demonstrated the first flight of the heavy hunter drone "Hunter", which took place on August 3. During the test, a Su-30SM fighter flew at the same time to compare the flight parameters of the new equipment with the already tested one. Foreign experts drew attention to the Hunter. Some even called it a deadly weapon.

On August 3, Russia's heavy hunter UAV “Okhotnik” completed its first flight, accompanied by a Su-30SM fighter, follows from an expanded video of its first flight test, published by the Ministry of Defense on YouTube. The side number of the tested prototype of the “Hunter”, according to published personnel, is 071.
The video shows how the “Hunter” and the fighter fly parallel to each other at the same speed and altitude.

Managed by a Su-30SM pilot in a separate area, it flies with the landing gear extended, just like an apparatus, repeating the rolling level of the drone to the right or left. Such a parallel flight is carried out to verify the flight parameters and the operation of the systems of the tested aircraft with the corresponding parameters of an already developed aircraft.
The first flight of the "Hunter" lasted more than 20 minutes. The Ministry of Defense specified that the apparatus under the control of the operator several times circled the airfield at an altitude of about 600 m and made a successful landing. The flight was carried out at one of the Ministry’s test aerodromes.
The “hunter” is made according to the “flying wing” pattern. Special materials and coatings make it virtually invisible to radar detection equipment. The drone is equipped with equipment for optoelectronic, radio engineering and other types of reconnaissance. It uses an AL-31 series turbojet engine, which is used, in particular, on Su-27 fighters. On the wing of the drone, there are no characteristic suspensions for weapons, which means that the means of destruction are located inside the fuselage.
As a source in the military-industrial complex told TASS, by the end of this year the Okhotnik will make several more flights, one of which, as planned, can take place in a completely autonomous mode.

“In the future, platforms for reconnaissance, surveillance, information transfer and strike functions will have to combine stealth and good cruising characteristics,” he emphasized.
According to Jie, thanks to the “flying wing” technology, the Russian military drone is especially effective at a constant subsonic speed.
He noticed that the small drag force in this flight mode and high aerodynamic quality allow the drone to fly long distances with the same wingspan.
Designed according to the “flying wing” scheme, stealth drones, as the Chinese journalist noted, are becoming less noticeable, since most often in such UAVs backpack-type air sampling valves are used. In addition, low visibility is ensured by the absence of vertical tail unit and outstanding radar reflection systems on the fuselage.
The American edition of The Drive, in turn, noted the design of The Hunter, which resembles the appearance of the American strike aircraft F-117 Nighthawk. But the design of the Russian drone allows it to fly at supersonic speeds and be used as a follower in the link with the latest Su-57 fighters.
The American publication The National Interest at the end of January called the Okhotnik-B jet stealth drone the next deadly weapon that is being developed in Russia. The article noted that, despite the previous failures of the Russian military in the development of combat robots, this novelty can be useful in front-line aviation.
“Okhotnik-B” will become the heaviest and fastest drone in the arsenal of Russia, but its weight and speed indicate that it is necessary to work out many aerodynamic, electronic and high-tech issues.
This opinion was expressed by expert on Russian weapons Sam Bendett. He also noted that it may take several more years to develop before the new drone is ready for service.
