Trump signed a new nuclear agreement with China and Russia

US President Donald Trump is confident that after the dissolution of the INF Committee will be able to sign a new agreement on the limitation and reduction of nuclear weapons. Only now, according to the American leader, the contract should be concluded between three parties - the United States, Russia and China. At the same time, the head of the United States noted that reducing the cost of nuclear weapons would benefit countries.

The American leader Donald Trump believes that the United States, Russia and China will be able to sign an agreement on the further limitation and reduction of nuclear weapons. He stated this during a conversation with reporters at the White House, reports TASS.

“We talked with Russia about this, about the pact concerning nuclear [arms] and suggesting that they get rid of the part [of such an arsenal], we will get rid of the part. We will probably have to introduce China into this, ”Trump suggested.

  • He noted that China is in third place in terms of the number of countries possessing nuclear weapons, Russia is in second place, and the United States occupies the leading position. “In terms of [the number of units] nuclear [weapons], it has, China is much lower [of Russia and the United States]. Nevertheless, we, of course, would like to connect China at some stage [to agreements on limiting the number of nuclear weapons], ”the agency quotes the leader of the United States.

  • According to Trump, he discussed this issue with the Russian leader Vladimir Putin and the PRC Chairman Xi Jinping, considering the prospects for further reductions in nuclear weapons in the world, as well as Beijing’s participation in such agreements. The American president noted that the Russian and Chinese sides accepted his proposal. “China was extremely inspired by this discussion, like Russia,” the White House owner believes. He stressed that "at some stage, there will be a deal."

  • At the same time, he noted that if it is possible to reach agreements, this will benefit the whole world. “I will say the following: if we can conclude a pact with Russia providing for the reduction of both nuclear [weapons] with it, it would be great for [the whole] world. And I truly believe that this will happen, ”Trump said.

  • He also said in an interview with journalists that he is in favour of normalizing Russian-American relations. However, one of the obstacles to this, according to Trump, was the investigation by Special Prosecutor Robert Muller, who ascertained whether there was Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.

  • “I would say the relationship is good. We are trying to establish a good relationship. This is very difficult in the light of the fictional witch hunt that has now been stopped, ”Trump said, calling this investigation“ a witch hunt. ”

  • Donald Trump also expressed the view that reducing the cost of creating nuclear weapons would benefit both the United States and Russia with China. “If we can cut costs by concluding a pact with Russia and China, it would be very good for all three countries,” the American president said.

  • In addition, he noted that the US withdrawal from the Russian-US Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF) was due to the fact that Moscow "did not fulfil its obligations", violating the provisions of the agreement. “And I said: if they [the Russian side] do not fulfil their obligations, then we must. We must always lead. I redid our nuclear [arsenal], we are creating new nuclear [weapons], ”the US head said.

“I treat his statement with a greater degree of wariness and a rather large degree of scepticism. Since China has officially declared that they will not agree to this agreement, ” Yury Shvytkin, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense , told RIA Novosti.

The parliamentarian sees a “weak prospect of a possible signing” of a new agreement, especially after the US side withdrew from the INF Treaty on August 2, as a result of which it ceased its action.

Earlier, Washington has repeatedly accused Moscow of violating the provisions of this treaty. For the first time, such accusations were voiced in July 2014. Then the American authorities said that the Russian side violated the INF Treaty, creating a 9M729 missile. Russia, in turn, argues that these missiles are not subject to the technical components of this agreement, which was signed between the United States and the USSR in 1987. The document provided for the parties to the agreement to eliminate missiles of shorter (from 500 to 1,000 km) and medium-range (up to 5,500 km) land-based. Thanks to the agreement, the parties destroyed 2,692 missiles of two classes at once.
