Positioning

When it comes to budget smartphones up to 10,000 rubles, then positioning is a rather conditional thing. Usually, in this price category, they choose according to the principle “what is cheaper”.

If you paint the selling elements of the Motorola E6 Plus, it turns out like this:

  • Motorola is a brand and a guarantee of quality, so even a budget smartphone works smoothly and smoothly.
  • Large IPS screen 6.1 inches
  • The dual rear camera and 8MP front camera
  • There is a fingerprint scanner
  • Removable battery (such on the Internet are sold at 800 rubles, you can buy an additional one)

Appearance and equipment

Motorola E6 Plus Review

The smartphone comes in a box of red colour. Inside the wire, adapter, documents, smartphone and case. Thank you for the little case. At IFA 2019, I saw a smartphone like this in colour:

And for the test, they sent a device with a silver-mirror back cover. Given that the lid is plastic, it’s better to hide it in a case.

At the top, there is a 3.5 mm jack.

On the bottom, there is a speaker and a charging connector.

And on the right side are the volume buttons and the power button.

When they sent me a smartphone, I did not know that he had a removable battery. I took the smartphone out of the box, tried to turn it on immediately. Did not work out. Well, there's nothing to do. Put on charging. After a couple of hours, I tried again. Again does not work. Although it was clear that the smartphone was connected to power: the indicator was on with orange light. For the first time in a long time, I climbed to read the instructions, which clarified everything. Initially, the battery lies in a separate bag under the adapter and wire.

Then there was a funny moment with the removal of the cover. The cover is removed entirely with the side, but looking at the smartphone, I decided that only the upper mirror part should be removed. As a result, about 5 minutes I tried to pick up the lid. Then a second time I climbed into the instructions. Very humiliating.

Under the cover, there is a place for the battery, a slot for a microSD card and two connectors for SIM cards. One for Nano-SIM and one for microSIM. I did not like the location of the slot for the nano-SIM card. To get to it, you must definitely get the battery. But microSIM and microSD cards can be changed without turning off the smartphone.

Motorola E6 Plus Review

The smartphone has an IPS LCD screen, a resolution of 1560 by 720 pixels, a pixel density of 282 PPI, and a ratio of 19.5 by 9.

Motorola E6 Plus Review

The maximum brightness is about 400 nits, and the minimum is 7 nits. I tested the smartphone in the bright sun in Vietnam, and it was noticeable that 400 nits were not enough for comfortable work. Everything is visible on the screen, but you don’t get pleasure. But the minimum brightness is quite good and does not hurt the eyes when interacting with a smartphone in the dark.

Motorola E6 Plus Review

The smartphone has HD resolution, but it does not catch the eye. Colour reproduction is not bad.

The screen has a night mode. You can independently determine the intensity.

To find fault with the screen, in this case, is stupid, since Motorola set the maximum that is possible in this case. That is, it cannot be said that they saved out of greed.

By the way, and in such a budget solution there was a place for pure positive. The smartphone has such a miniature cutout for the camera that, I think, even inveterate opponents of such decisions will not annoy it.

Battery

The battery in the smartphone is 3,000 mAh. The video playback time in the VLC player in aeroplane mode at maximum brightness and volume was 9.5 hours. A similar time can be obtained when refreshing the page via Wi-Fi every 15 seconds. On the one hand, the values are average, but the battery is only 3,000 mAh. So in terms of energy efficiency, the smartphone is not bad.

Motorola E6 Plus Review

The smartphone has a removable battery. Searching the Internet, I found that batteries of this type sell for 750 rubles. After the distribution of power banks, the need for additional batteries disappeared. But for 1.5 thousand, you can buy two batteries in reserve, and the total time of the smartphone will be longer than that of a Burbank for the same amount. Although there will be trouble, then how to charge all these batteries. In short, just know that the battery is removable. Maybe someone will be useful.

Performance

The smartphone runs on the MediaTek MT6762 Helio P22. The chipset entered the market in the second half of 2018, the technology of the chipset is 12 nm. Below are the AnTuTu test results.

Motorola E6 Plus Review

In terms of performance, the smartphone stars from the sky are not enough. However, I used the device for a couple of weeks and until now I was convinced that Motorola sent me an advanced version of the device with 4 GB of RAM for review. But no. Only 2 GB. It seems to me that this is the difference between brands and just Chinese. Despite 2 GB of RAM, the smartphone did not annoy me with slow performance and freezes. I looked at it in a browser, used mail and even in a fit of greed (when it was a pity to discharge my main smartphones), I watched a movie from it. On a smartphone, you can safely play undemanding games.

Motorola E6 Plus Review

The main plus - the smartphone is not annoying when working. You can use it comfortably without suffering from bugs and lags.

Motorola E6 Plus Review

Communication opportunities

There are no problems with voice transmission. The smartphone has 4G support. Reception of a network sure.

Otherwise, everything is rather modest: Wi-Fi is only 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 4.2. The micro-USB connector, but there is an OTG function, that is, you can stick a USB flash drive. When connected to a computer, a smartphone without installing additional drivers is defined as a removable disk.

There is GPS / A-GPS, GLONASS. Satellites see well, but there is a minus. The smartphone saved on a compass, so on maps, the location is indicated by a dot, not an arrow, which shows which way you are looking.

Motorola E6 Plus Review

Cameras

The smartphone has a dual main camera 13 + 2 MP and a front camera of 8 MP.

Motorola E6 Plus Review

I can’t call the cameras outstanding, but they shoot quite well for their price category. However, look at the examples of shooting yourself on the main camera and make your impression.

Motorola E6 Plus Review

Of the curious. The camera has a zoom. Surprisingly pretty.

But night shooting is not about the Motorola E6 Plus.

Software and Impressions

In essence, this is pure Android. All startup programs fit on one screen. Of the pre-installed applications - only Yandex Browser and the general Yandex application. Given what laws are being adopted, the preinstalled Yandex is already a constant. However, it’s sad that applications can only be turned off, not deleted.

Another minus is the lack of branded gestures by Motorola. For most, the loss is inconspicuous, but I liked all of these interaction options - shake, twist your wrist so that the flashlight works, etc.

The rest are no complaints. The system is nimble, does not lag, does everything that I want. I need to upload 300 MB of photos to the Mail.Ru cloud - please. You need to watch YouTube - no question! With a dozen tabs in the Chrome browser - you can too. It's easy to play chess!

Conclusion and competitors

This is the most difficult section of the review since it is extremely difficult for me to put myself in the place of a person who needs a smartphone for 8,990 rubles. I was crucified about cameras, performance, the lack of a compass in GPS. And probably, for a typical buyer of such a device, only one criterion is important - norms or bullshit. From this point of view - norms.

Motorola E6 Plus Review

If I needed a smartphone in the lower price segment, then I would go with the “button” until I saved up 15-16 thousand rubles. Now, this is the amount that allows you to purchase at times the best performance and cameras device. On the other hand, it is almost twice as expensive as the price of the Motorola E6 Plus.

Motorola E6 Plus Review

The closest price competitor is Redmi 8 on Snapdragon 439. It's “grey” with all the consequences, but it has 4/64 GB of memory.

Motorola E6 Plus Review

I would also suggest paying attention to Nokia 4.2 in a combination of 3/32 GB and with Android One. The smartphone is based on the Snapdragon 439, but the main thing is Android One, that is, the device will have support.
