And the energy consumption of new products is unpleasantly surprising.

A few days ago, we evaluated the capabilities of the latest AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors. In particular, then many sources compared the new products with Intel HEDT processors of the previous generation, and of the new was only the flagship Core i9-10980XE.

Now we can take a look at the tests of other CPUs in the updated Core X line. The source tested all four models: from Core i9-10900X to Core i9-10980XE. Conveniently, the tables also contain the very latest Ryzen Threadripper. As we saw today, AMD itself contrasts the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X with the Core i9-10920X processor and the Threadripper 3970X with the flagship Core i9-10980XE. At the same time, we recall that the Ryzen Threadripper 3960X and 3970X cost $ 1,400 and $ 2,000, respectively, and the new Intel Core X line for $ 1,000 is already ending.

So, if we discard synthetics and games, summarizing the results, we can say that the Core i9-10980XE roughly corresponds to the Ryzen 9 3950X. Somewhere a little faster, somewhere else. At the same time, the AMD processor is much cheaper, and the motherboards for it cost much less than for Core X. Of course, if we are talking about recommended prices, since now it is almost impossible to buy Ryzen 9 3950X as a whole.

The 14-core Core i9-10940X at a cost of $ 790 roughly corresponds to the 12-core Ryzen 9 3900X, which officially costs $ 500.

The 12-core Core i9-10920X is expectedly faster than the eight-core Ryzen 7 3800X, but the second is half the price. As for the junior 10-core Core i9-10900X, it costs $ 590, while it is also faster than the Ryzen 7 3800X. Moreover, it is not particularly slower than the Core i9-10920X, so for many, the younger Core X may be the most interesting option. Of course, if you need or just want an Intel processor, since in all cases AMD options are better in terms of performance and price.

We should also take a look at the difference between the Core i9-10920X and its predecessor. Unfortunately, the Core i9-9920X is the only Representative of the previous generation Core X in the test. And we see here that the old CPU is always faster than the new one and at the same time consumes much less energy, which can be called an absurd situation. Especially if you recall that the new CPU has higher frequencies.

The power consumption of the new Intel CPUs is generally disappointing. They consume significantly more energy than the faster and more affordable competitors from the AMD camp. This is especially impressive when comparing the 12-core Core i9-10920X and the 32-core Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX.

As a result, the new Core Xs became half the price of their predecessors but still can not compare with the latest AMD. However, in any case, these CPUs are much more attractive than the previous generation, if only because of the prices.
