Anyone who has purchased one of the currently available special editions of the game streaming service Google Stadia as an early adopter will receive an additional Chromecast Ultra in addition to the wireless controller and three-month Stadia Pro access.

It is through these that it is possible to play games in high 4K resolution with up to 60 frames per second on a compatible UHD television or monitor. Until now, use was only possible with the help of the included streaming stick, Google is now adding the long-overdue software update for all Chromecast Ultra models.

Purchase of the Stadia starter kit is still a requirement

The purchase of the € 129 Premiere Edition cannot be avoided for access to Stadia, but owners can now also use the Chromecast Ultra devices already available in the household to stream games. As is well known, it has so far only been possible to use the Stadia Controller in wireless mode.

On Windows PCs, Macs, Android smartphones and tablets USB cable C is currently required to use to the gamepad. It is not possible to use the keyboard and mouse in combination with the Chromecast Ultra.

Only next year should 4K operation of Google Stadia be possible via the Chrome browser and the appropriate smartphone app. Likewise, no trace of extensive support for Android models and Apple iPhones as well as iPads apart from Google's own range of pixels has been missing.

It can be assumed that Stadia will submit these features in good time in the first quarter of 2020 in preparation for the start of the free Stadia Base version. Due to missing functions, outdated and expensive games and technical breakdowns, the platform is currently under criticism.
