Huge performance gains for AMD Radeon 3D cards and support for older adapters. New Adrenalin 2020 driver released

It is already available for download.

The promised new driver for AMD Radeon graphics cards finally came out yesterday. Recall that once a year the company releases a very large update for its driver, adding many new features and changing the design.

The Adrenalin 2020 version 19.12.2, which is already available for download, looks completely different and works clearly faster (verified). In addition, AMD decided not to cut back on the list of supported video cards, so owners of all adapters, starting with the already quite elderly Radeon HD 7000 series, can try out new software.

But the main thing, of course, is the new features. As expected, support for Radeon Boost technology appeared in the driver. The essence of the technology is very simple: when detecting a fast movement of the picture, the software slightly reduces the resolution in order to reduce the load on the GPU and thereby increase productivity.

On average, we are promised about 23% of the growth rate of fps, but sometimes the value can grow significantly more. For example, in Overwatch, the manufacturer promises an increase of 38%! As for the image quality, AMD says that it is decreasing insignificantly, and it is unlikely that it will be considered during the game. It is also worth keeping in mind that Radeon Boost technology must be supported by a specific game.

The new driver as a whole increases the performance of Radeon video cards by 12%, but this is compared to the very first version of Adrenalin 2019.

You can also note the appearance of integer scaling support in the driver, which eliminates the picture from a number of problems when converting a lower resolution to a larger one.
