Hundreds of millions of Apple users saved, hacker goes to jail

Hacker promised to reset accounts

A couple of years ago, an attacker turned to Apple, saying that he gained access to a huge number of iCloud accounts and other Apple services. He threatened to nullify 319 million Apple user accounts if the latter did not agree to satisfy his monetary claims.

The story of the hacker Kerem Albayrak ended quite rapidly. He was sentenced to two years in prison with a deferment of execution. In addition, he received 300 hours of community service, during which he will wear an electronic bracelet to control movements.

In March 2017, 22-year-old Kerem Albayrak sent an email to Apple Security stating that he had gained access to hundreds of millions of Apple accounts. He demanded $ 75,000, otherwise, he promised to host the database on the Internet and reset user accounts.

Later, the hacker demanded $ 100,000. Apple appealed to law enforcement agencies in the UK and the United States, on March 28, 2017, employees of the National Crime Agency arrested Albayrak in his London house. 

The investigation revealed that the young man was part of a group of hackers who called themselves the “Turkish criminal family.”


Investigations also revealed that the Apple system was not compromised.
