Downloaded files can be permanently deleted

An error was detected in the Android operating system that leads to unwanted deletion of files without the knowledge of users.

One user drew attention to the error and already reported it to Google through the Google Issue Tracker service. It appears in Android 9 Pie and is associated with the cleanOrphans function.

The problem concerns files downloaded by the user to the device. Such files fall into the “Downloads” folder. If you try to transfer the downloaded content to another folder, the system can delete them without any requests and permissions from the user after the smartphone enters sleep mode.

If it worked correctly, the files would simply move to another folder, and not be lost. A similar problem with the sudden disappearance of files appears if you rename the "Downloads" folder.

In principle, this is not the first report of such problems. However, Google has not fixed them yet.
