In September, Ricoh announced that it was developing a flagship APS-C SLR camera with a Pentax K mount. Having shown a prototype of the device at the Pentax Meeting 100th Anniversary Special, the manufacturer promised that the new product would be ready in 2020.

In early November, Japanese photographer Kimio Tanaka, known as a source of subsequently confirmed information about Pentax's new photographic equipment, announced that the camera would be announced in the summer of 2020.
