Microsoft reveals hints for Windows 10 20H2 update

In the near future, Microsoft will release a major update to Windows 10 for users with new features. However, the second major operating system update for the year should be released this fall, and it is still unclear how Microsoft has prepared for this. Details are starting to appear now, and Microsoft itself has allowed it to leak.

Microsoft reveals hints for Windows 10 20H2 update

In short, the Windows 10 20H2 update (2009 version) will not be as large and ambitious as the upcoming Windows 10 May 2020 update (2004 version). Instead, Microsoft plans to focus on "minimal feature set", productivity and quality improvement.

So, the next update of Windows 10 May 2020 Update will be quite large, but Windows 10 20H2 will bring only general improvements. This approach may be more successful than a plan to release large functional updates twice a year.

And while Microsoft has remained proudly silent that Windows 10 20H2 may turn out to be a small update, now we have technical "evidence" in support of this theory.

Build number 19041.264 is considered final for the Windows 10 May 2020 Update. It hinted at the fall update of Windows 10 20H2 - a special “Enablement Package”. The version number was confirmed - 2009, as well as the assembly number - 19042.

Versions 2004 and 2009 received the same set of system files. New features of version 2009 will be included in the monthly updates of version 2004, but for the time being, they will be in a disabled state. To activate the new features, the version of Windows 10 2009 just needs to install the “inclusion package”.

In September or October, Microsoft will release a quick “master switch,” which will activate the new features of the second half-year update of Windows 10 20H2.

For ordinary PC users, the distribution of the Windows 10 May 2020 Update will begin from May 26 to May 28. It was previously reported that Microsoft had to postpone the release of Windows 10 May 2020 due to a zero-day vulnerability discovered at the last moment.

The Windows 10 May 2020 Update brings new features and a redesigned interface to the Cortana voice assistant, improvements to the Windows Search and Linux subsystem, as well as a ton of small changes to the GUI, including new application icons.
