How Companies Look for Job Seekers on TikTok

 There is a chance to find a job on the TikTok social network - for this, you need to record a short video that will act as a video resume for potential employers. Several companies from the USA have already joined the pilot project of the service.

TikTok will help users find a job - a pilot program for the selection of candidates using a video resume has been launched on the social network. Now the user will be able to write down their own business card and send it to the employer. So far, their list is limited, but, perhaps, such a step of the service will create a trend, especially given the conditions of the pandemic and remote work.

The entertainment platform's website states that TikTok is popular with creators creating educational videos to help them learn and get jobs. In this regard, it was decided to make the service a place for finding employees by potential employers.

The program is based on the short video format that made the project a phenomenon among new social networks.

In the video, the user must tell about himself, listing the skills, talents and experience in an effort to interest the selected well-known employer.

The program already includes such companies as Chipotle, Target, WWE, Alo Yoga, Shopify, Contra and Movers + Shakers. This list is incomplete and may be expanded in the future. All posts that are video summaries will be accompanied by a special hashtag #TikTokResumes. This allows them to be tracked and sorted for the selection of candidates.

Start position

For the new direction, a separate special site has been created (www.tiktokresumes.com), which lists all available vacancies. So far, the program is only available to US residents and will run until the end of July. Marketing Manager Kayla Dixon noted that TikTok is thus continuing to develop projects to help students get a job.

She stressed that the pandemic has made many adjustments in the lives of young people. Dixon believes that in the current environment, an unusual way of looking for a job, familiar to many as a hobby, can both cheer up and help at the beginning of a career.

When studying open positions, it is noticeable that many available vacancies are quite often found on standard job search services, which are available in many countries of the world. Social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter have also quickly learned to be as good a job search platform as the specialized LinkedIn. Used similar practices and large companies, describing positions and conditions right in the posts.

However, a video resume is a new and therefore unpopular phenomenon, relevant only for a small number of jobs that do not require special skills and knowledge. In works with a clear set of requirements, preference is still given to the format of a text resume.

Svyatitskaya explained that while in the new TikTok project, employees are considered for starting positions, shift work during summer vacations or internships.

“The experiment of the social network is interesting for the world labour market, although it is not something fundamentally new and“ clean ”from the point of view of the uniqueness of the platform," the specialist noted.

According to the expert, the presence of a separate resource on the network confirms that in the end, TikTok is more likely to create "a career site format that is familiar to everyone for a long time."
